A Girl’s Guide to a Sick Day

β€’

Mayday, mayday! Girl blogger down. I repeat: girl blogger DOWN.

I hate being sick. I’m stuffy, annoyed, and honestly just over it. All I want is to breathe normally through my nostrils, but apparently, that is too much to ask right now. So, while I’m fighting for my life over here, I thought I’d put together a little Girl’s Guide to a Sick Day, aka everything helping me survive this very unfortunate situation.

1. Forget the productivity.

This is not the time to be productive. Your body is fighting off whatever decided to ruin your week, so the best thing you can do is take care of your cute little self. Put on your comfiest pajamas, grab your favorite blanket, and get comfortable.

2. Make yourself something warm.

Grab your favorite tea, coffee, hot chocolate, or whatever warm drink makes you feel cozy. Bonus points if you drink it out of your favorite mug.

3. Create your little sick-day station.

Keep everything you might need within arm’s reach:

πŸ’§ Water
🧻 Tissues
πŸ’‹ Lip balm
πŸ’Š Medicine
πŸ”Œ Phone charger
🧸 Cozy blanket
β˜• Your favorite mug

Because once you’re comfortable, the last thing you want to do is keep getting up.

4. Eat something warm.

Soup, oatmeal, noodles, toast, whatever sounds comforting and is easy for you to eat. This is not the day to worry about making the perfect meal. Keep it simple and give your body some fuel.

5. Take the everything shower… or absolutely do not.

If you have the energy, take a warm shower, moisturize, put on fresh pajamas, and pretend you’ve just reset your entire life. But if you don’t? Baby, the shower can wait. Rest comes first.

6. Put on your favorite show or movie.

This is not the time to start a complicated new series that requires you to remember 17 different characters and three plot twists. Give me something familiar, funny, and easy to watch.

Here are a few of my go-tos:

7. Put your phone on Do Not Disturb.

You don’t have to answer every text, respond to every notification, or be available to everyone. Sometimes the best thing you can do is disappear under your blanket for a little while.

8. Romanticize the rest.

If you’re feeling up to it, make your sick day a little cozy. Put on some soft music. Make some tea. Light a candle. Get under your favorite blanket. You don’t have to make yourself miserable just because you’re sick. Let yourself slow down.

9. Take care of your body.

Rest, stay hydrated, eat when you can, and take any medications according to their directions. And if you’re feeling significantly worse or have concerning symptoms, don’t hesitate to seek medical care.

10. Remember: resting is productive.

You don’t have to β€œmake the most” of your sick day. You don’t have to clean your entire apartment. You don’t have to catch up on school or work. You don’t have to feel guilty for spending the day in bed. Your body is asking you to slow down. So slow down. Take this time to take care of yourself, get some rest, and hopefully give your body the chance to bounce back. And if you’re currently sick too…

Girl, we’re in this together. πŸ€§πŸŽ€

Now excuse me while I go back under my blanket.
